Strengthening its Rigid Plastics business, Australia’s Amcor (Hawthorn; www.amcor.com) in late October acquired privately owned preforms producer Encon (Dayton, Ohio / USA; www.enconco.com) for USD 55m (about EUR 50m). Aside from its main plant in Dayton, the US group also runs three further production sites. Founded in 1977, Encon today posts sales of about USD 110m.
Since the US group already serves several of Amcor’s customers, “the acquisition will deliver considerable operating synergies,” Amcor CEO Ron Delia said. The Australian company wrapped up its 2015 financial year this August with a particularly strong performance for its Rigid Plastics business, which lifted sales by 3.9% to USD 3.3 bn (for details, see Plasteurope.com of 27.08.2015).
