Amcor Flexibles (Abbotsford / Australia; www.amcor.com) has introduced a range of chlorine-free films that offers a cost-effective alternative to the traditional PVdC-coated PVC blister film. Based on a coextrusion of PP and cyclo-olefin copolymer (COC), the films provide an equivalent moisture barrier to PVdC-coated PVC films, the company claims. Unlike PVC and PVdC, the films contain no chlorine, release no toxic substances during incineration and COC coextruded films do not have adhesives or organic solvents used in their manufacture. They offer up to 40% weight saving compared to their PVC/PVdC equivalents, Amcor says.
