Injection moulding firm AMB Industri (Broakulla / Sweden; www.amb.se) is investing around SEK 50m (EUR 4.8m) to expand its cleanroom area for medical devices manufacturing. The investment includes several new injection moulding machines and automated equipment, and is part of efforts to boost the Swedish company's offering for the Nordic medical technology industry. Medical technology is AMB's largest business area and also the one with the strongest growth.
The company is waiting on the 2,500 m² extension. Of this, the new cleanroom will take up 830 m² and is expected to be operational by early summer 2019. AMB says new jobs, mainly for process and production technicians, might be on the cards.
AMB is a family-owned specialist in the surface treatment of plastics. It has also become a manufacturer of medical devices, commissioning its first cleanroom in 2008. Three years ago, it invested SEK 34m in an automated assembly cell, and the Swedish company has been fully occupying its existing cleanroom. Its second cleanroom was completed in 2018, with 1000 m² of production floor space in a class 8 environment.
