Agreement with NatureWorks to develop high-performance bio-based alloys
Altuglas International (Colombes / France; www.altuglas.com) and PLA producer NatureWorks (Minnetonka, Minnesota / USA; www.natureworksllc.com) have entered an agreement to produce a range of newly formulated bio-based, high performance alloys based on PMMA and NatureWorks’ “Ingeo” biopolymers.

The materials will be marketed by Altuglas as “Plexiglas/Altuglas Rnew” biopolymer alloys with applications in durable goods applications, where high performance, durability and clarity is important. The biopolymer alloys offer lower processing temperatures and improved melt flow properties without compromising optics, scratch resistance, colour acceptance or surface aesthetics for which Altuglas’ “Plexiglas” and “Altuglas” brands are known, the companies said.
