Austrian packaging manufacturer Alpla (Hard; www.alpla.com) has announced its acquisition of Germany’s Heinlein Plastik-Technik (Ansbach; www.heinlein-plastik.de/en), in an effort to expand its pharma segment. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price, Alpla said. 

Heinlein manufactures closure and dosing systems, as well as application aids. Alpla CEO Philipp Lehner said the acquisition will add to the company’s product portfolio and expand its injection moulding capacities. Heinlein’s Ansbach site in Bavaria, Germany, is also to serve as an injection moulding and automation technology centre for the group’s pharmaceutical activities in the future, managing director Walter Knes added.

The plant site in Ansbach covers an area of over 22,000 m²; Heinlein has around 175 employees there, with more than 60 injection moulding and assembly machines and an in-house mould-making department. The company generated sales of around EUR 27 mn last year. 

The Alpla Group currently has 193 facilities with around 23,300 employees. Its most recent annual sales were EUR 4.7 bn. The group’s AlplaPharma division (www.alplapharma.com) produces cleanroom-certified bottles, containers and closures, and packaging for over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceutical products.
