Austrian firm introduces reusable, recyclable rPET bottle / Product follows work with German beverage company
Austrian packaging manufacturer Alpla (Hard; www.alpla.com) and mineral water company Tönissteiner Sprudel (Brohl-Lützing, Germany; www.toenissteiner.com) have announced the development of a reusable PET bottle made of post-consumer recycled material (except closure and label). The reusable, one-litre mineral water bottle is lightweight and is fully recycled at the end of its lifespan, the Austrian company said.

The rPET used for the packaging solution is produced and provided by Alplarecycling. “When the reusable bottle reaches the end of its lifespan as determined by the number of cycles it goes through, it can now be turned into rPET at the Alplarecycling plants and recycled into new bottles. Laser markings indicate the number of cycles a bottle has been through and complement the quality controls at the refilling stage,” Alpla explains.
