Plastic packaging manufacturer Alpla (Hard / Austria; www.alpla.com) says it recently acquired compatriot packaging manufacturer Wolf Plastics (Kammern; www.wolfplastics.eu), thereby expanding its presence in the Central and Southeast European region. No financial details of the transaction were disclosed. Alpla acquired South African packaging manufacturer Verigreen Packaging (Durban; www.verigreen.co.za) in July (see Plasteurope.com of 30.07.2021).
Wolf Plastics currently employs around 210 people at sites in Kammern, Fertőszentmiklós / Hungary and one near Bucharest / Romania. Its range of 400 products – plastic buckets, canisters and bottles – is supplied to customers in the construction, chemical and food industries. “Wolf Plastics has decades of experience in product areas in which we would like to be more strongly represented,” Alpla CEO Philipp Lehner said.
Up until 2025, the Austrian packaging multinational plans to invest an average of EUR 50m annually in the expansion of recycling activities (see Plasteurope.com of 24.02.2021). The company’s central plan is to internationalise the measures for high-quality recyclates to close material cycles in as many regions as possible. In the future, Alpla also plans to combine all developments in biodegradable packaging solutions under newly founded brand “Blue Circle Packaging” (see Plasteurope.com of 20.07.2021).
