Packaging manufacturer opens plant in Egypt
Austrian packaging producer Alpla (Hard; www.alpla.com) has strengthened its market position in Egypt with the construction of a new production site. The site at Madinat al-Ashir min Ramadan near Cairo was set up on 25 April 2017 by its joint venture Alpla Taba. According to local media, investments worth about EUR 25m have been made. An Alpla spokesperson told Plasteurope.com that all other sites in Egypt would remain active.
The company has had production facilities in the North African country since 2015, when Alpla bought a plant in El Obour from competitor Argo (see Plasteurope.com of 02.12.2015). Half a year later, it purchased a majority of shares in the former Taba Group – now Alpla Taba – with two additional plants in El Obour (see Plasteurope.com of 16.03.2016). Worldwide, Alpla has more than 160 locations in 43 countries and employs around 17,300 people.
