German firm replaces cast film lines / Solar system supports power requirements
German film manufacturer allvac (Waltenhofen; www.all-vac-folien.de) said it has invested over EUR 10 mn in two new coextrusion cast film lines and associated equipment.

The two 11-layer systems, each with a capacity of around 10,000 t/y, are to replace older lines, leaving capacity at around 26,000 t/y, a company spokesperson told Plasteurope.com

Allvac specialises in thermoformable barrier films based on polyethylene and polyamide used largely for packaging perishable foods. In addition to cast films, it also produces blown film laminates with up to 18 layers.

The two new lines make multilayer PA/PE films and ionomer films. Both are expected to produce around 10% less scrap compared to the replaced systems. Allvac said it has been feeding edge trims back into the production processes for some time now.
Further upgrades add solar units
The company said it has also automated the packing line and installed a photovoltaic system. The latter is expected to supply 2.3 mn kWh/y and thus fully cover the film manufacturer’s electricity requirements, at least on sunny days.

Allvac currently has about 120 employees and last year reported revenue of EUR 60 mn.
