Acquisition of PFR in Eastern Germany: European polyamide, PET and fibres production facilities
Allied Signal Inc (HQ: PO Box 2332, Morristown, NJ 07962, USA) announced that it has agreed in principle to purchase the activities of Polymer und Filament GmbH Rudolstadt (PFR, D-07407 Rudolstadt), a German producer of polyamide and PET resins and PA fibres. PFR, the former Thüringische Faser AG Schwarza, is owned by the Landesentwicklungsgesellschaft, which is the development agency of the same of Thüringen. The transaction is expected to be completed during July 1995. As part of the agreement, AlliedSignal will acquire PFR's manufacturing facilities in Rudolstadt, located 240 kilometers east of Frankfurt am Main, which is expected to employ approximately 300 people initially. Terms of the purchase have not been announced.
AlliedSignal said it plans to invest approximately $ 140m over the next three years to upgrade the facility to world-class quality standards, expand polymer capacity, and build a Plastics Application Development Centre. "The acquisition of the PFR facility will enable AlliedSignal to meet the increasing needs of our European customers in the plastics and fibres markets," said Frederic M. Poses, President, AlliedSignal Engineered Materials. "The Rudolstadt site will serve as a springboard for our future European growth initiative."
