ALGERIA
Plastics industry grows by 4.5% each year / Plast Alger 2010
Growing at an average of 4.5% a year, Algeria’s plastics sector is one of the country’s fastest growing industries, consisting of some 1,000 mostly small- and medium-sized private companies, but also comprising several heavyweights such as energy giant Sonatrach (Algiers / Algeria; www.sonatrach-dz.com) and the Société Nationale de la Pétrochimie (Enip, Skikda; www.enip-dz.com). The sector is roughly divided into 40% injection moulding, 40% packaging and plasticulture, and 20% extrusion.
The industry's success clearly was visible at this year’s “plast expo”, held 2-5 June 2009 in Casablanca. Building on that success, organiser faitrade (Heidelberg / Germany; www.fairtrade-messe.de) will be holding the “International Euro-Mediterranean Trade Fair for the Algerian and African Plastics and Chemical Industry” (plast alger, Algiers / Algeria; www.plastalger.com) in Algiers from 3-5 May 2010.
The event will be held in parallel to “printpack alger 2010”, Algeria’s 2nd International Printing and Packaging Technology Trade Fair. For more information on both events, contact Jana Garbrecht, Tel: +49 6221 456513, E-mail: j.garbrecht@fairtrade-messe.de
