French packaging manufacturer Albéa (Gennevilliers; www.albea-group.com) has acquired Chinese cosmetics packaging producer Zhongshan Meiquan Plastic Products, also known as TEX China, from TEX R.L. International (Taipei / Taiwan; www.rockpackage.com). Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, although Albéa did say the agreement included a mould manufacturing workshop that would allow it to develop its own industrial moulds. Located in Guangdong province, TEX China operates 3 plants and specialises in the production of mascara, lip gloss, lipstick as well as pots and cases. The company’s 700 employees last generated sales of USD 20m, 80% of which came from exports.
Albéa is the former Alcan Packaging Beauty business, owned by US investment firm Sun Capital Partners (Boca Raton, Florida; www.suncappart.com). The French group already operates five plants in China and also boasts a sales office in Shanghai. The TEX China acquisition will allow it to consolidate its global product offer and further strengthen its presence in China, the company said, adding that the purchase allows it to offer its international customers metallization and varnishing technologies in China as well.
The purchase brings the group’s total workforce to 10,200, operating at 36 different sites across 13 countries.
