Spanish plastics technology centre Aimplas (Valencia; www.aimplas.net) says it has installed an extruder from Germany’s Leistritz Extrusionstechnik (Nuremberg; www.leistritz.com) to research plastic products for the pharmaceutical industry. The organisation reports that it already using a “ZSE 18 HP-PH” machine inside an ISO7-GMP clean room.
The centre has than 30 pilot lines to develop or test various plastics applications, said Raquel Llorens, health senior researcher at Aimplas. “We want to expand our field of activity in the pharmaceutical (HME) and cosmetics industry, materials for bone and tissue regeneration and medical device developments.”
The extrusion system, which also includes a side-feeder for conveying material downstream into the melt, meets the latest GMP guidelines, Aimplas said.
