UK packaging group Aegg (Andover; www.aegg.co.uk) will highlight its new manufacturing facility at the "Packaging Innovations" trade show, which takes place from 13 - 14 September 2017 in London. The company plans to start production at the plant in Eye / UK in the first half of 2018, with initial investments worth approximately GBP 1m (EUR 1.1m). The expansion is to meet growing UK and export demand for its PS, PET and PP food pots and bowls.
Phase one of the unit expansion will include the installation of five Netstal (Näfels / Switzerland; www.netstal.com) injection moulding machines for producing PS, PP, SAN and PET packaging, used in the "food-to-go" and convenience sectors, and two injection stretch blow moulding machines for producing PET packaging, such as for pots. Additional machines are to be added during phase two.
Aegg’s managing director, Jamie Gorman, said, "With more of Aegg’s manufacturing taking place in the UK, this will allow us more control in times of future uncertainty whilst Brexit negotiations take place." He added that the new facility is about 5,500 m², which is also expandable to 13,000 m². In line with the company's environmental initiatives, there is power generation from wind and chicken litter at the site. Aegg works within the initiatives of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (Cowes / UK; www.ellenmacarthurfoundation.org) and UK organisation Recycling of Used Plastics (Recoup, Peterborough; www.recoup.org).
