US private equity firm acquires South American packaging specialists / Columbia's Intecplast and Peru's Pieriplast come together in Amfora Packaging holding company
Columbian rigid plastic packaging manufacturer Intecplast (Soacha, Cundinamarca; www.intecplast.com.co), a leading supplier to the personal care, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals industries, and Pieriplast (Lima, Peru; www.pieriplast.com), provider of high-end, customised packaging solutions for the direct sales cosmetics industry in the Andean region, have been acquired by private equity firm Acon Investments (Washington, DC / USA; www.aconinvestments.com). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Acon said the acquired businesses will be consolidated under a new holding company, Amfora Packaging, to create one of the largest pan-Andean plastic packaging companies, with over 800 employees and production facilities in Lima / Peru and Bogotá / Colombia. Jose Alejandro Arango, CEO of Intecplast, will become Amfora’s CEO and Renato Pierinelli, founder and former CEO of Pieriplast, will retain a significant equity stake in Amfora and will become both the chief technical officer and chairman of the company.
Intecplast utilises injection, blow moulding, injection stretch blow moulding and injection blow moulding at its Bogotá production facilities. The company serves leading multinationals operating in Colombia and the Andean region and exports to another 13 countries on the region.
Pieriplast produces packaging for a wide portfolio of formats including mascaras, lipsticks, powder dispensers, jars, and perfume caps. It is also a processor of engineering resins and serves customers in Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Brazil.
