German compounder and plastics wholesaler WIS Kunststoffe (Breitungen; www.wiskunststoffe.de) has launched a range of post-consumer recyclates (PCR) certified for applications in the cosmetics segment.
The company’s PreFin F brand polyethylene and PreProp F brand polypropylene are manufactured entirely with recyclate made using household waste collections. According to marketing manager Daniel Römhild the materials are suitable for leave-on and rinse-off products and may thus be used for example in the packaging for shower gel, shampoo, and cream.
The materials, which comply with the requirements of EU Directive 10/2011 and EG no. 1223/2009, can be processed by injection moulding, extrusion, and blow moulding. The production of translucent and light, shining applications is also possible, Römhild noted.

“We use waste plastics from the packaging stream and from other raw material sources,” he said, offering no further details. The company, which is certified by the European EuCertPlast scheme, intends to expand its recyclate portfolio with ABS, polyamide, polystyrene, polycarbonate, and POM. At present, WIS is working on recyclate with a certification for toy applications (as per EN 71-3) and for food contact applications.
At the end of last year, the compounder invested more than EUR 1 mn in capacity expansions.
