PVC RECYCLING EUROPE
VinylPlus makes voluntary commitments to increase recycling
The European PVC industry's sustainable development programme VinylPlus (Brussels / Belgium; www.vinylplus.eu) has made commitments to increase PVC recycling to at least 900,000 t/y by 2025 and 1m t/y by 2030. VinylPlus managing director Brigitte Dero says because the programme brings together the entire value chain – PVC and additives producers, converters and recyclers – it has "responded immediately" to the European Commission’s call for voluntary commitments from the plastics industry. MEP Martina Dlabajová spoke about the importance of voluntary commitments at VinylPlus’ "Sustainability Forum 2018" in May.
In 2017, the initiative recycled 639,648 t of PVC waste in Europe – see Plasteurope.com of 07.06.2018. Since its founding in 2000, VinylPlus says it has recycled more than 4m t of PVC. The main applications for the polymer include window frames, flooring, cables, pipes, packaging, sports equipment, furniture components and medical devices.
