PACKAGING RECYCLING EUROPE
Pack2Go Europe launches initiative for food packaging collection and recycling
With its initiative "reaching 4 recycling, calling 4 collection" (www.collection4recycling.eu), the European trade association of food packaging manufacturers Pack2Go Europe (Brussels / Belgium; www.pack2go-europe.com) has put into place a long-term effort to promote recycling of "on-the-go" packaging. The initiative will create partnerships and systems to ensure that recyclable products like cups, trays and other containers often used for on-the-go consumption are collected for recycling.
The association is targeting catering and recycling companies, as well as cities and municipalities, to invest in pilot projects and to test them at the local level, improve waste separation and promote recycling throughout Europe. Luca Nobili, chairman of Pack2Go Europe's circular economy initiative says, "We are testing new solutions to increase separate collection and recycling throughout Europe." Inadequate infrastructure and lack of collection systems, poor consumer awareness, contamination, lack of economic incentives and a lack of a shared vision are the major obstacles to recycling food and beverage packaging, according to Pack2Go.
