New long skirt closure design / Moulded hinge / Hexalite adopted for still water closure in Spain
Global plastic closures manufacturer Bericap (Budenheim / Germany; www.bericap.com) has added a long skirt closure to the “Galileo” range that uses patented technology for its moulded hinge products. The “LSK EV 29/44 Galileo 11” is designed for application with “Verplast 29/21” glass and PET bottles for the packaging of syrups, sauces and dressings as well as premium edible oil. The design of the dispensing closure maintains the traditional appearance for such products and is easy to open and close for both young and old. There is also a large surface area for printing that allows the addition of a marketing message.

The Galileo range is manufactured from PE with a tamper-evident, hinged over-cap made from transparent PP that facilitates single-handed pouring. Different colour combinations are possible. Incorporated into the closure are two independent tamper-evidence seals. The consumer needs to first break the over-cap seal before being able to remove the pull-up ring, which eventually breaks the second seal. The transparent over-cap allows the consumer to see the integrity of the membrane, which acts as a secondary tamper-evident feature.
Bericap also reported that its “HexaLite 29/11” closure has been adopted by Vilas del Turbón (Las Vilas, Huesca / Spain; www.vilasdelturbon.com) for its range of gourmet still waters. It is being used in association with the company’s 0.5 and 1.0 litre PET bottles that are intended for use by the Horeca (hotel, restaurant and café) market and which have replaced two sizes of glass bottles.
The lightweight HexaLite closures incorporate a slit and folded safety band (flexband). This provides a good anti-counterfeiting feature in addition to reliable and forgiving application on high-speed filling lines. The sealing system has been designed for maximum tightness. Of additional benefit is the combination of a lightweight bottle with a lightweight closure to save both raw material and energy costs, plus a lowering of carbon footprint.
