Planned Packaging Films (PPF, Northwich / UK; www.pp-films.com), a specialist supplier of packaging services to leading medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers in the Americas, Europe and the UK, has been acquired by the Wasdell Group (Swindon / UK; www.wasdell.co.uk), a contract services company supplying the global medicines market. “The acquisition of PPF allows the Wasdell Group to vertically integrate into a key commodity area, safeguarding supplies but also expanding our capabilities and product and service offerings,” commented Wasdell’s CEO Vincent Dunne. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Planned Packaging’s product range – manufactured in part in ISO 8 cleanrooms – includes a variety of pre-made easy peel pouches, high-barrier foil films and semi-rigid materials for processing through thermoforming lines. The company is also introducing new 100% recyclable and biodegradable options. With the acquisition, Wasdell is adding to its own portfolio of blisters, prefilled syringes and pouches.
The Swindon-based group has been expanding over the years, both organically and through acquisitions. Wasdell invested around EUR 30m in a 6,500 m² production site for pharmaceutical packaging in Dundalk / UK, which was completed at the end of 2018. The company generated sales of some EUR 42m in the same year.
