Major maintenance and expansion of ADN plant in Chalampé has begun / Start to the new year

As previously announced (see Plasteurope.com of 29.07.2019) Butachimie’s (Chalampé / France; www.butachimie.eu) scheduled triennial turnaround of its adiponitrile (ADN) plant in Chalampé officially started on 1 October 2019. The maintenance work will last until the end of the year and is to update and expand the facility. Capacity at the site will be increased by 100,000 t/y to over 600,000 t/y. Chalampé is home to the only facility in Europe that produces ADN, a key feedstock in the PA 6.6 chain.
Butachimie is a joint venture, with Solvay’s (Brussels / Belgium; www.solvay.com) 50% stake in the French company to be sold to BASF (Ludwigshafen / Germany; www.basf.com) as part of the divestiture of the Belgian company’s polyamide business. The other 50% share of Butachimie will remain with ADN technology licensor Invista (Wichita, Kansas / USA; www.invista.com).
