Grupa Azoty (Tarnów; www.grupaazoty.com) has rebranded its polypropylene project in Police / Poland as Grupa Azoty Polyolefins – see Plasteurope.com of 12.10.2017. Using the English name rather than the original name PDH Polska highlights the international scope of the production venture, the Polish chemical producer said, explaining that it will supply both the Polish and European markets. The name change is also designed to help build the brand of this key investment for the entire group.
In May 2019, South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering (Seoul; www.hdec.kr) was appointed general contractor for the integrated complex on the Baltic coast. Together with Korean Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND), the contractor is handling financing for the project now expected to cost just over EUR 1.5 bn.
The heart of production is to be a 429,000 t/y PDH plant using the “Oleflex” process owned by Honeywell subsidiary UOP (Des Plaines, Illinois / USA; www.uop.com). This will supply feedstock to a 437,000 t/y PP plant, which is planned to be still on track to start up in 2022. The “Unipol” process of W.R. Grace (Columbia, Maryland / USA; www.grace.com) meanwhile has been selected for PP production.
In addition to the production facilities, the scope of the plans also includes a transhipment and storage terminal with capacity to store up to 500,000 t/y of propane. This is flanked by logistics infrastructure and ancillary installations.
