The Croatian firm is a subsidiary of Cortec (Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA; www.cortecvci.com), which provides vapor corrosion inhibitor (VCI) solutions, marketed under VpCI and used in the production of environmentally safe film for corrosion protection.
EcoCortec said the new compounding lines at its polymer processing plant can produce various concentrated masterbatch products. It is also able to integrate its parent’s VpCI technology into its Eco-Corr biodegradable packaging at the site. The product range is based on its Eco Works blend of aliphatic and aromatic copolyesters, which is made from renewable raw materials including sugar and corn.

The company also announced that the new facility implements “a high-level circular economy model”. One of its sustainability initiatives is that customers can send in waste VpCI material, which EcoCortec then both recycles in-house and reuses in the production of new film. The company said it aims to use 30% recycled content in its plastic packaging by 2030.
