Brazilian polyolefin group Braskem (Sao Paulo; www.braskem.com) has announced the purchase of US polyester filament manufacturer taulman3D (Linton, Indiana; www.taulman3D.com) in a move that expands its additive manufacturing (AM) materials business. Financial details were not disclosed.
Braskem’s range of AM materials to date has included PE and PP filaments, some with carbon and glass fibre reinforcement as well as plastic granules and powder. The acquisition adds polyester filaments, some of which are based on recyclates, with which taulman3D primarily supplies sectors such as aerospace, automotive, healthcare, heavy industry, and defence.

The market for 3D printing offers enormous potential, said Jason Vagnozzi, commercial manager of Braskem's additive manufacturing division. He cited forecasts that says the market for 3D printing will grow by 20% annually and reach a volume of USD 78 bn (EUR 74 bn) in 2030.
With the takeover, Braskem is now doubling its share of this fast-growing market, Vagnozzi said.
